Deaf history is full of decisions apparently taken to favor their interest. However, a closer look to the way in which decisions were taken and the consequences on the quality of life of D/deaf people reveals that most of them were guided by prejudices and stereotypes. Nowadays, conversations in online settings and newspapers show how prejudices and stereotypes are still guiding the positions taken towards the D/deaf, although balanced by new forms of stereotypes born within the ‘D/deaf culture’. In this broad choice of definitions, confusion arises, blocking the evolution of didactic methodology and political choices that could move towards a real integration of the D/deaf in everyday life.
