Corpus-based Interpreting Studies: Early Work and Future Prospects

The present paper offers an overview of past and ongoing research projects within the field of Corpus-based Interpreting Studies (CIS). General obstacles to the creation of machine-readable corpora to study interpreting are briefly discussed, highlighting the main reasons why the development of Corpus-based Interpreting Studies is still at a less advanced stage than that of Corpus-based Translation Studies (CTS). What can be learnt from past and current experiences in developing interpreting corpora may suggest ways to gradually bridge the existing gap between CIS and CTS.

Il presente lavoro presenta una panoramica di alcuni progetti di ricerca, vecchi e nuovi, nell'ambito degli studi sull'interpretazione condotti con la metodologia dei corpora (Corpus-based Interpreting Studies o CIS). Gli ostacoli alla creazione di corpora elettronici per lo studio dell'interpretazione sono discussi a grandi linee, sottolineando le ragioni principali per cui lo sviluppo dei CIS è ancora in una fase di sviluppo meno avanzata rispetto a quella degli studi sulla traduzione basati sui corpora Corpus-based Translation Studies CTS). Gli insegnamenti che si possono trarre dalle esperienze passate e quelle attualmente in corso nello sviluppo dei corpora di interpretazione possono suggerire come colmare gradualmente il divario esistente tra CIS e CTS.
