As a means to express freedom or social discomfort, literature has played an important role in the Arab Cultural World. This article focuses on Qatar as a case of study. Its essential purpose is to highlight how writing, since the 1970s, has provided the opportunity for some Qatari women writers to portrait the typical local woman through the use of short stories. It is a woman who seeks her independence and who tries to release herself from the traditional structures of Arab society. In this general context, the analysis concentrates on the Qatari pioneer of women writing, Kaltham Jabr. Thanks to her style, the masterful use of Arabic language, she was able to greatly describe women in Qatar and their inner changes through the mixed feelings arousing between the past and the present reality.
