Democrazie desiderate. Comunicazione interculturale e nuovi modelli istituzionali nello spazio del Mediterraneo

In the part of Europe bordering the Mediterranean between 1948 and 1978 democratic regimes were born, characterized not only by the formal and substantial division of powers, but also by the protection of freedoms from discretionary interference by the executive, independent information and the promotion of social rights. This model has been present in Italy since 1948, after sad experience of fascism; it arrived in Greece twenty-five years later, with the fall of the regime of the colonels; in Portugal it arrived in 1974 with the Carnation Revolution and in Spain, after the death of the dictator Francisco Franco, there was the proclamation of the Constitution in 1978. Democracy is spreading to all European countries that have been victims of dictatorships and bordering the Mediterranean, but it has not yet spread to the countries of North Africa and the Middle East. What stands in the way of the reception of Sandro Pertini's idea that "The worst of democracies is better than the best of all dictatorships"??
