With the oxymoron “Samaritan narcissism” we intend to focus on the salient features of the forma mentis prevailing in European and North American progressive political culture over the last fifty years. In order to do so, we need to bring together the main outcomes of the transformations undergone, roughly in the same time frame, by Christianity, Catholic but not only, with the Second Vatican Council, by philosophy, with the success of postmodernism, and by Marxist Socialism, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the consequent crisis of the western communist parties. The political correctness and cosmopolitan universalism of the new liberal and globalist left would therefore represent the temporary landing place of the union, not without tension, between the secularisation of Christianity and the failure of Communism.

Abstract
With the oxymoron “Samaritan narcissism” we intend to focus on the salient features of the forma mentis prevailing in European and North American progressive political culture over the last fifty years. In order to do so, we need to bring together the main outcomes of the transformations undergone, roughly in the same time frame, by Christianity, Catholic but not only, with the Second Vatican Council, by philosophy, with the success of postmodernism, and by Marxist Socialism, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the consequent crisis of the western communist parties. The political correctness and cosmopolitan universalism of the new liberal and globalist left would therefore represent the temporary landing place of the union, not without tension, between the secularisation of Christianity and the failure of Communism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
