Abstract
Edmund Burke’s theory of language ends his philosophical work and symbolically introduces him as the renowned theoretician of the sublime into the arena of politics. The metamorphosis of philosophical discourse into the language of politics defines Burke’s reaction to radical and revolutionary rhetoric and the metaphysical spirit underlying it. In the conclusion the focus shifts onto Elizabeth Inchbald and Mary Wollstonecraft, whose works demonstrate paradoxically how influential Burke’s counter-revolutionary rhetoric was to radical women writers.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
